This is one of the most challenging sites we have worked on in the firm’s history. The project had several restrictions due to building setbacks, property lines, and a sloping site. A creative approach was required to the design of this addition for a growing family. The existing home from the 1940's lacked any large gathering spaces, and the tiny kitchen was not functional. My firm explored the boundaries of current regulations and designed the additions to the rear of the house. We enclosed an existing screen porch that could not be demolished, turning it into a new home office, and converted the space up front into a new courtyard. We also updated the front with new siding, window trim, and a welcoming front portico that includes a brightly painted front door.
